Late night randoms

I almost laughed out loud when I titled this post and then looked at the clock.  10:03 pm.  For someone that wakes up at 5 am and teaches 22 sixth graders all day, that is late night.  Anyways...

Duane had grad school tonight and is finally on his way home.  It was a difficult night flying solo, but I'm proud to say I had Kason fed, bathed, and in bed by 9:20.  I was pretty proud of myself seeing as it's the first time I've accomplished this alone.  However, I give props to all the single parents out there.  I have no idea how you do it.  In an attempt to keep my eyes open so that I can at least see my husband once today, I decided to blog some random things that are on my mind.  Watch out..mom brain + late night = some crazy thoughts!

1. Today, after picking Kason up from my mom's I took a glance in the mirror.  I had my camera bag, diaper bag, and purse on one arm.  On the other arm I had my breast pump, milk cooler, lunch, and car seat.  I looked like a crazy bag lady....or just a working, busy mama!  I wanted to snap a picture with my phone, but I'm not that talented!

2. I think all moms should have at least 4 arms based on my statement above.  It would just make life a whole lot easier.

3. Today at school I have to explain to one of my students that it's actually not a good idea to climb inside your locker and attempt to lock yourself in.  I love this student...he makes me laugh on a daily basis but he sure does keep me on my toes!

4. I bought a Baby Bullet tonight.  I have gone back and fourth as to what type of baby food maker I wanted to get.  After reading LOTS of reviews I can see positives and negatives to about every food maker out there.  I talked to several people that own the Baby Bullet and love it...so I decided to go for it!  Be looking for a baby food making blog post in the near future (which lets be honest..could be a year at this point).

5. I think I could watch HGTV all day everyday.  If I had to give up all channels except one..I'd probably choose HGTV.  Love it!

6. At Taget this evening I was behind an extreme couponer.  I mean...binder and all.  She was buying about 20 toothpaste bottles at a killer deal.  It was the kind of toothpaste I use and I'll admit I was slightly jealous. However, that extreme couponing looks extremely hard and extremely time consuming.  I think I'll keep my sanity.  We all know I don't have much left as it is!

7. Kason tried sweet potatoes last night and LOVED them.  My mom said they were my favorite when I was little.  Now I think they are ga-ross...but I'm glad he likes them!

8. My milk supply is going down.  The lactation consultant said this would happen after a few weeks back at work.  I'm so worried I'll have to stop nursing Kason sooner than I wanted.  I'm hoping to make it to 12 months.  I got some sort of herb that was recommended to me.  I hope it helps.  Sorry if this random thought was too much information.

9. I got the People Magazine that gives the scoop on Kim Kardashian's wedding.  SO excited to read it but can already tell you I am not impressed with her dresses.  I'll be honest, Keeping Up with the Kardashians is one of my favorite shows.  I know, I know, it's trash TV and a complete waste of time...but I can't help it!

10. I am absolutely dreading my alarm clock in the morning, but am thankful tomorrow is Friday.  And my first official pay check since May.  That's something to get excited about my friends! :)

Duane just walked in and Kaia almost attacked him.  I guess that's my cue to spend some QT with my husband and head to bed!  Have a great Friday! :)

Kason is 5 months!

Photobucket

This is about a week overdue, but when I tried to take 5 month pictures on his 5 month birthday I noticed he had a horrible rash..so I decided to wait!  So here it is..better late then never, right?!

Our sweet little guy is 5 months!  I wish I could freeze time because I love this age.  He is becoming so much more interactive and it seems like he learns something new every day.  It is so fun to watch each day to see a new skill he has learned.  We are so blessed to have this baby boy in our lives.

Current stats:

Weight: 13 lb. 4 oz.  I only know this because of our frequent visits to the doctor lately.  More on that later.
Height: Not sure and I don't feel like getting the tape measurer out!  We'll find out at his 6 month appt. in a couple of weeks!

Here is what Kason is up to at 5 months:

Kason LOVES...

...Sleeping on his tummy!  We have finally graduated Kason from sleeping in his bouncy seat to sleeping directly on his mattress.  I know, I know, I waited too long.  Don't judge me!  He just slept SO much better in his bouncy seat up until the last couple of weeks.  That's when I noticed him trying to roll over in the seat.  He would try and try and try and then finally start crying because alas, it's impossible!  It only took him a few days of mattress sleeping to figure out how to roll over to his belly.  So, this boy loves tummy sleeping!  I wish we would have known this sooner.  Maybe I would have moved him from his bouncy seat at an earlier age.

...Kaia!  Kason has always noticed Kaia.  He would look at her when she would sit closely to him and occasionally he would reach for all of her fur.  Recently, however, he can't keep his eyes off of our crazy dog.  He loves to watch everything she does and as soon as we set him down next to her, he immediately grabs for her and smiles.  Kaia always wants to lick Kason up and down (which we discourage) and when she licks his hands he laughs.  I mean like deep belly laughs.  I don't know why but this kid loves his dog! :)

...His toes!  Kason has been aware of his toes for months now.  He grabs at them and kicks them all over the place.  A couple of days ago I caught him with his toes in his mouth.  I've seen it a couple of times since.  I think this takes the toe loving to a whole new level!

...Solids!  That's right..we have started solids!  We started oatmeal (banana flavored for my oh so picky boy) about a month ago.  Let's just say he didn't love it.  It took a couple of weeks until he finally warmed up to it.  A few nights ago he tried carrots for the first time and he loved them!  I can't wait to try new veggies and fruits in the next few weeks!

Kason does NOT love...

...Being sick.  Our little guy has been so healthy up until the last couple of weeks.  It all started with a trip to the doctor for a fever and crankiness.  He told us Kason had a double ear infection and sent us home with medicine.  Exactly a week later Kason started to get a really deep, barky cough in the middle of the night.  I took him back to the doctor and the doctor said he had croup.  He was back a few days later for a rash that I guess was caused by croup.  Ugh, I'm really hoping we're DONE with the doctor until his 6 month check up.

...Sitting still.  This kid is a mover!!  He is not one to just sit on your lap and relax.  He constantly has to be moving.  I have a feeling we're going to get very busy in the next few months!

Here are some sweet pictures of Mr. Kason at 5 months and 1 week!

It's hard to believe he will be halfway to a year in just 3 weeks.  Time, please slow down.  Thanks.

Happy Wednesday! :)

Our boys got skills

Check out this sweet boy's newest skill...

Photobucket

That's right, Mr. Kason can sit up without any assistance!

Photobucket

He is so strong and I knew a few weeks ago that he'd be able to master this skill in no time.

Photobucket

 He can't do it for more than about three minutes, but everyday he can sit up for longer and longer!

Photobucket

And how does he feel about this newest accomplishment?

Photobucket

The smile says it all.  After all...wouldn't you be happy if finally after months of laying on the ground and looking up at the ceiling you could finally sit up straight and look at all of the cool stuff going on around you?!  That sentence was a run-on, I'm sure, but you get the point!

Happy Tuesday! :)

Chicken Fajitas and Lemon Chicken Piccata {Cooking}

Oh, cooking.  I'm afraid I've kinda fallen off the wagon.  Once school started, the cooking stopped.  It's exhausting to be on your feet all day and then come home to a very sweet (but very needy) baby.  By the time dinner time rolls around I have no physical or mental energy left.  I'm hoping this will get easier from here on out.  My body is just having a hard time adjusting.

I can't remember when I cooked these two things but it was prior to the start of school.  They are both great, easy recipes and I hope to cook them again soon!

{Chicken Fajitas}

These are so simple, it's almost pointless to post the recipe.  However, they were so good I feel like I have to!

Here is what you will need:
Photobucket
And my favorite:
Photobucket
First I cut the chicken into strips.
Photobucket
{I do realize how close that paci is to uncooked meat..don't worry, I washed it!}
Next I added a little crushed red pepper to the chicken and then cooked it.
Photobucket
After that, I added the Santa Fe Blend to the cooked chicken and let it cook for about 4 more minutes.
Photobucket
After that, I just added lettuce, cheese, and sour cream and I had this delicious chicken fajita!
Photobucket
See...SURPER simple! :)

{Lemon Chicken Piccata}

This one was a tad more difficult, but still very easy!  Here is what you will need:
Photobucket
{Minus the rice cereal and oatmeal..ha!}
The first thing I did was cut 4 small slices from one of the lemons.  After that, I squeezed the juice from the remaining lemons.  Hindsight, I probably would have just used lemon juice.  Squeezing the lemons was sticky and messy and I feel like I didn't get enough juice.
Photobucket
Next, I crushed up about 1 cup of Ritz Crackers into a bowl.
Photobucket
I then coated the defrosted chicken in this...
Photobucket
After that I put the chicken in the bowl of ritz and then put them on the skillet!
Photobucket
I cooked the chicken for about 8 minutes.  While I was cooking that chicken I also let the lemon juice come to a boil.
Photobucket
 Once the chicken was finished cooking I poured the lemon juice onto the chicken and let it cook for a couple more minutes.  I decided to serve the chicken with rice and here is the final product...
Photobucket
Like I said, easy and yummy but very messy!  This is what the counter looked like once I finished...
Photobucket

Well, there you have it!  Two new, delicious recipes.  Maybe I'll try something new this week.  Maybe.

Happy cooking and Happy Saturday!

Remember when?

Do you remember when I used to set my sweet little boy in our big comfy chair and he would just sit and smile at me?

These pictures were taken over the course of about 3 minutes.  Finally I gave up.  This is the only decent one I got...
Photobucket

I know he's not officially "mobile" but this kid is a mover!  When he starts crawling, watch out!  He is going to keep us on our toes!

I have SO much to blog about!  I want to share how my first week back at work was and blog a few recipes I've recently tried...but right now all I want to do is SIT (because I've been standing way too much this week) and do nothing.

Happy Friday from a mama who loves Fridays more than ever right now! :)
